Week 4 blogpost
I think Catcher in the Rye was named that because in the book when Holden says he's the catcher down in the crevasse and when kids fall down there and he catches them and puts them back in the field he is saving them from being phony or fake. He kind of does this throughout the book, well, he tries to anyway. He calls everyone a phony and he wishes that his generation wasn't like this and he tries to save his generation by being the catcher. He tries to save Phoebe by not making her a phony, but he sees that there is starting to be a little phony in her. Also when he sees the eff you on the walls and stuff he was thinking about how some perverse teen tried to make the kids conform to what their actually supposed to be, that's why he is mad about it. Because theyre conforming already. He wants to help kids not conform to the nasty phony way. That's what the catcher is. And the Rye is simply the childhood of them. It's the wonderful simplicity and the wonderful non-conforming world of being a child.

Poem!
One day I will be married. Or maybe I won't.
If I marry the man I want to marry now
Will it turn out as great?
Or is he not for me?
Will I marry a stranger out of need?
Will I marry a "bad boy" to go against my parents wishes
Or will I marry a fairytale prince who will sweep me off my feet?
It's hard to tell what is going to happen now
I have so many questions about marriage
Not questions like: What will I wear?
Where will it be?
Questions more like:
Will our love last forever if we say "I do."?
Or will it break apart?
Even though I am far from being married, I still worry.
What will it be like?
If I marry the man I want to marry now
Will it turn out as great?
Or is he not for me?
Will I marry a stranger out of need?
Will I marry a "bad boy" to go against my parents wishes
Or will I marry a fairytale prince who will sweep me off my feet?
It's hard to tell what is going to happen now
I have so many questions about marriage
Not questions like: What will I wear?
Where will it be?
Questions more like:
Will our love last forever if we say "I do."?
Or will it break apart?
Even though I am far from being married, I still worry.
What will it be like?

Week # 3 Blog
I think this quote connects to Holden because he is doing his own thing and not really following the laws since he is drinking underage and hiring a prostitute. He is really going by his own rules, he doesn't really care what others thinks.
"Here is the test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: if you're alive, it isn't."
- Richard Bach
I think this quote connects to Holden because he is still on a mission. He is on a mission to live life. And as long as he is alive, he still has that mission. Once he completes a mission, he still has another. One after another, challenges don't stop until you're dead.

First Post. Finally.
When we first started reading Catcher in the Rye, I saw Holden Caulfield as an ignorant slob who doesn't really care about anyone but himself, but as I read on through the book I saw that he was actually a decent guy. Sure, he may be on the wrong path through life (not putting his best foot forward in school, not living up to his potential, etc.) but he is a good kid. He may think poorly of some people, but he was still nice to them regardless. I kind of also feel bad for him because his parents probably don't really pay any attention to him. He probably only smokes and does stupid stuff because he wants his parents to care. He probably never learned to care, too. I mean, he cares about everyone around him at least a little; if he didn't he wouldn't take Ackley to the movies or go visit Spenser, but he doesn't really care about himself, it seems. He also tends to not care what people think of him, or else he wouldn't of left all the gear on the bus. But I don't think the way he is is entirely his fault.
